Angela M. Mullen

Angela Marie Mullen, 85, of 81 Wells Ave., a registered nurse, died yesterday at Sweetbrook Health Care Center in Williamstown, where she had resided since June 2001. Born in North Adams on Aug. 22, 1916, daughter of Anthony and Ann Cicchetti Cardillo, she was a 1935 graduate of Drury High School. She was awarded a three-year full scholarship to St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Brighton and completed her degree in nursing in 1938. She was last employed as a school nurse at Charles H. McCann Technical School from 1965 until retiring in June 1981. Previously, she had worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in New York City and St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn. She returned to North Adams in 1948 and was employed by North Adams Regional Hospital until resigning in 1965. Mrs. Mullen was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. Her husband, Leo Joseph Mullen, whom she married Aug. 22, 1940, in New York City, died Jan. 18, 1976. She leaves a daughter, Ann Marie Wright of Clarksburg; a son, Gerald A. Mullen of North Adams; a brother, Peter P. Cardillo of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Christina Cardillo Moran of Adams; and five grandchildren. She was also the guardian of Patrick Walsh of Calgary, Canada, Mary Ann Walsh Rorke of Bradford, and the late Francis Walsh of Adams, who died Feb. 7, 1999. She was predeceased by two brothers, Pasquale "Patsy" Cardillo on Jan. 21, 1998, and Francis Cardillo on May 28, 1999. The funeral will be Thursday, April 18, at 12:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapel, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 1:30, with the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, April 17, from 3 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Anthony Centennial Fund or Alzheimer's Support Group through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams.
