Charlotte A. Simmons, 48, of 30 Cone Ave. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 27, 1953, daughter of Elizabeth O. Ellsworth Furlong and the late Joseph H. Furlong, she graduated from Wahconah Regional High School in Dalton in 1971 and received an associate's degree in nursing in 1975 from Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield. Mrs. Simmons was most recently employed at Optimum Care in Pittsfield. Prior to that, she had been employed as charge nurse and nursing supervisor at Westfield Manor Nursing Home from 1975 until 1994. She was charge nurse at Springside of Pittsfield from 1994 until 1996; shift supervisor at Willowood of Pittsfield from 1996 until 1997, and charge nurse in the subacute unit at Willowood of Great Barrington from 1997 until 2000. A member of First Congregational Church of Becket Center, she enjoyed animals, collecting Anna Lee dolls and vacationing at beaches in Maine. She and her husband, Frederick L. Simmons Jr., celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary April 3. Besides her mother, of Becket, and her husband, she leaves a son, Aaron M. Simmons of Lee; a daughter, Sarah L. Simmons of Lee; two brothers, Richard Furlong of Becket, and David F. Furlong of Dalton, and a sister, Elizabeth O. Furlong of Pittsfield. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 2 at First Congregational Church of Becket Center by the Rev. Robert L. Withers, pastor. Burial will be in Becket Center Cemetery.
