Iva Smith

Iva Fay Smith, 81, a longtime resident of West Center Road, more recently of Heaton Court in Stockbridge, died Tuesday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in East Fryeburg, Maine, on Jan. 16, 1921, daughter of Gilbert Arthur and Lula Harnden Smith, she was educated in schools there and graduated from the Fryeburg Academy in 1940. She and her brother, Sidney, came to West Stockbridge to work on the Baldwin Farm on West Center Road. They resided there until moving to Heaton Court in 1998. A longtime member of the Grange, Miss Smith was a seventh-degree member and received her certificate for 65 years of membership in both the state and national Grange. She was a member of West Stockbridge Grange 246, where she was a lecturer for many years. While in Maine, she was a past master of the Grange. She was also active in the 4-H Club in West Stockbridge. Besides her brother, Sidney Smith of Stockbridge, she leaves three sisters, Elsie Daggett of Williston, Fla., Sylvia Ranger of East Fryeburg and Betty Lou Thompson of Livermore Falls, Maine. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 20, at noon at the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 20, from 11 until the time of the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to either the West Stockbridge Grange 246 or the West Stockbridge Congregational Church through the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
