Francis E.'Ginger' Gerard

Francis E.'Ginger' Gerard, 84,of 318 Park St., Housatonic died Sunday, February 11 at Timberlyn Heights. He was born in Great Barrington on October 16,1916, the last of 10 children of the late Eugene and Bertha Barbour Gerard. He was a World War II Veteran, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a pipe fitter in the maintenence department at the former Rising Paper Mill now Fox River, for over 40 years retiring in 1981. After his retirement, he became caretaker at Berle's. He was a member of Mt. Everett Council of the Knights of Columbus 513,a communicant of Corpus Christi Church. He was well known for mowing and maintaining the River bank along the Housatonic River in front of his home and for his ownership with his daughter of racehorses among them Compo's Image. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Lydia V. Zorzanello Gerard, whom he married October 16, 1947 in West Stockbridge, l son Joseph F. of Mendham, N.J., l daughter Suzanne F. Sylvester of Great Barrington and his 4 grandchildren Stephanie Sylvester, Michael, Kristine, and Laura Gerard. Many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Francis E.'Ginger' Gerard who died Sunday, February 11, will be Thursday, February 15 with a memorial mass in Corpus Christi Church at 10 AM with Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St.Bridget's Cemetery. There are no Calling hours, family and friends are invited to attend the memorial mass.
