F. Richard Drennan, 80, of 59 Holmes Road died Monday evening in Hartford, Conn., following an auto accident. Born in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 16, 1922, son of Richard Patrick and Margaret G. Murray Drennan, he moved to Medford at a young age and attended schools there. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering. He also graduated from Boston College Law School. He served as a lieutenant in the Army during World War II. A former special assistant district attorney and special assistant state attorney general, Mr. Drennan entered law practice after moving to Pittsfield in 1951. He joined the law firm of Shea, Drennan & Shea, with his father-in-law, John M. Shea, and his brother-in-law, John F. Shea. At the time of his death, he was associated with his son, Richard X. Drennan, in the Drennan Law Offices at 8 Bank Row. He was recently honored by the Massachusetts Bar for 50 years of service. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the American Legion and the Cranwell Golf Club. He also was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Berkshire Bar Association. He was a captain and star baseball player for Medford High School and was a member of the school's Hall of Fame. He also co-captained the American Legion Post 48 baseball team, the 1939 New England champions. He leaves his wife of 50 years, the former Marion Shea, whom he married Aug. 20, 1951, at St. Agnes' Church in Dalton; four sons, Richard X. Drennan of Pittsfield, Dr. Peter J. Drennan of Longmeadow, and Paul F. Drennan and John L. Drennan, both of Charleston, S.C.; a daughter, Mary S. Hanlon of Melrose; two brothers, Robert Drennan of Medford and the Rev. Lawrence Drennan of Bridgewater; two sisters, Margaret Drennan of Medford and Ann Forsythe of Memphis, Tenn., and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Peter Drennan. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 27, at 8:30 a.m. from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, with a concelebrated Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. Lawrence J. Drennan, Mr. Drennan's brother, and the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the DWYER FUNERAL HOME on Friday, April 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Pittsfield Catholic iSchools in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in his memory.

marion (shea) drennan passed away yesterday (5/30/17) and has now joined her beloved husband f. richard drennan (RIP). she will be greatly missed by her entire family. we loved both marion and dick. they fulfilled our lives and those of their children and families of birth - now joining in Heaven all those family members who preceded them both in God's heavenly kingdom. marion was an exceptional lady with many gifts to share - - - which she did. both were brilliant students and outstanding catholics. may they both rest in peace.
