Gladys Abderhalden

Gladys K. Abderhalden, 82, formerly of Washington Mountain Road, died yesterday at Providence Care Center in Lenox. Born in Lee on Feb. 14, 1920, daughter of Martin and Hattie Crawford Carty, she attended Lee schools and was a 1937 graduate of Lee High School. Mrs. Abderhalden was employed by Smith Paper Co. for a number of years and later at the A&P grocery store in Lee. In the early 1960s, she worked as a bookkeeper for Abby & Sons until 1971. She moved to Florida in 1973 and returned to Lee in 1990. Her husband, Joseph J. Abderhalden Jr., whom she married April 12, 1940, died May 1, 1978. She leaves a son, Joseph U. Abderhalden III of Lee; two daughters, Sandra L. Retzel of Lee and Jeanne M. Frusciente of Lenox; a brother, Raymond Carty of New Port Richey, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Martin T. Abderhalden, who died Nov. 19, 1990. Funeral services will be Friday morning at 10 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Friends wishing may make donations in her memory to Providence Care Center Fund in care of Kelly Funeral Home.
