Harry Nowobilski

Harry "The Cat" Nowobilski, 84, of New Britain, Conn., formerly of Housatonic, died Tuesday at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Housatonic on May 5, 1918, he was the son of Carl and Jadwiga Slezak Nowobilski. Mr. Nowobilski moved to New Britain in the mid-1940s and retired from Fafnir Bearing Co. after more than 30 years of employment. He was later employed by Commercial Insulation in Berlin, Conn. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in New Britain and its Holy Name Society and served as an usher/collector for the church. He also served on the church's bazaar committee and many other committees at the church. Mr. Nowobilski was active in amateur golf throughout his life. His golfing accomplishments include four New Britain city titles, four Stanley Club championships and the 1965 New England Public Links Association Championship. He leaves his wife of 60 years, the former Stasia Ptak; a daughter, Barbara Misko of New Britain; a son, John Nowobilski of Hebron, Conn.; four grandchildren, and a great-grandson. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, William Misko. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 from BURRITT HILL FUNERAL HOME, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Celebration at 11:30 at Holy Cross Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday and Friday from 5 to 8. The Holy Name Society will meet Thursday at 7.
