Marjorie Carver

Marjorie E. "Ticky" Carver, 73, of 6 Bryan Road died Monday at Laurel Lake Center in Lee, where she had resided for three months. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 18, 1928, daughter of John W. Korte Sr. and Marjorie Rushbrook Korte, she was a graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge. She was employed by the West Stockbridge Cemetery Commission and by the former J.J. Newberry's department store, the bakery department at the former Grand Union, and for seven years as a customer service representative at the former Zayre department store until 1973, all in Pittsfield. Mrs. Carver attended West Stockbridge Congregational Church and baked for its bake sales. She also enjoyed also making jams and jellies and was a Girl Scout leader. She and her husband, Neil Carver, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary March 6. Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Karlene McAvoy of Peru, Doreen Sawtelle of Lee and Cindy Bates of Jefferson, Ga.; a son, Gary W. Carver of Jefferson, Ga.; three brothers, John W. Korte Jr. and Robert Korte, both of West Stockbridge, and Arthur Korte of Great Barrington; two sisters, Catherine Kilmer and Mary Kinmond, both of Great Barrington; two grandchildren, John Lavoie of West Stockbridge and Anita McAvoy Wilson of Dayton, Ohio, whom she raised; 14 other grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Thursday at 11 at West Stockbridge Village Cemetery by the Rev. Esther Chappuis, pastor of West Stockbridge Congregational Church. Calling hours at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield will be Wednesday from 5 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
