Moses E. Harwood

Moses E. Harwood, 59, of River Street died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long illness. Born in North Adams on Jan. 8, 1943, son of Walter and Blanche Coppersmith Harwood, he attended schools in Williamstown, including the former Williamstown High School. He served in the National Guard for several years. He was most recently employed delivering meals for Northern Berkshire Elder Services. Previously, he had worked at the Spirit Shoppe in Williamstown, and the former James River Paper Co. and Coffeetime Vending, both in Adams. Mr. Harwood was a coach in his earlier years for both Little League and Youth Softball in Williamstown. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 310, where he helped with bingo games. He enjoyed fishing, country music and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He leaves four daughters, Kelly J. Garrison, Colleen H. Harwood and Ashley G. Harwood, all of North Adams, and Jennifer L. Harwood of Cheshire; two sisters, Anita L. Jennings and Geraldine Kornn, both of Williamstown; three brothers, Austin K. Harwood of Freemont, Calif., Leonard Harwood of Williamstown and Harry S. Harwood of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren. Services will be Thursday, May 16, at 10 from United Methodist Church on Main Street, Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 at GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 61-67 Spring Street, Williamstown, MA 01267. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Society through the funeral home.
