Sharon Kaplan

Sharon Ann Kaplan, 56, of 237 Schulze Road died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 1, 1945, daughter of David and Paula Kazminsky Kaplan of Boca Raton, Fla., she graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and received a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Bard College. She moved to Washington in 1989. Miss Kaplan had been a professor and producer at the Visionaries Institute of Suffolk University in Sheffield since August 2001. Besides her parents, she leaves her husband, Franklin Gerechter of Los Angeles, and a son, Josef Simon of Cambridge. A celebration of life service will be Wednesday, May 22, at her home at 237 Schulze Road, Washington, at 12:30 p.m., with Rabbi Andrew Klein of Hevreh of South Berkshire officiating. There will be no calling hours. BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to a scholarship fund in her name in care of The Visionaries, 1375 Boardman St., Sheffield, MA 01257.
