Audrey LaFontana

Audrey M. LaFontana, 82, a longtime resident of Castle Hill Avenue, died May 26 at Sharon (Conn.) Hospital. Born in Mansfield, Wash., on Oct. 8, 1919, daughter of Thomas and Valborg Christine Martin, she attended schools there and graduated from nursing school in Winachee, Wash. During World War II, she served in the Merchant Marine branch of the Coast Guard from 1941 to 1945. After she moved to the Berkshires, she was employed as a nurse at the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge for many years. She moved to Noble Horizons in Connecticut in the early 1990s. Mrs. LaFontana enjoyed various crafts, especially painting. Her husband, John "Roz" LaFontana, died July 30, 1993. She leaves two stepsons, John M. LaFontana of Manchester, Conn., and William G. LaFontana of Schenectady, N.Y.; two sisters, Margaret M. Jennings of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, and Catherine Carter of Omak, Wash. She was predeceased by her sister, Esther Blackmore. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. The FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington is in charge of arrangements.
