Josephine Maugere

"Badia" Maugere, 85, of 99 Second St. died Wednesday evening at Springside of Pittsfield. Born in Adams on June 13, 1915, daughter of Salem and Freda Shaker George, she graduated from the former Adams High School. Mrs. Maugere worked for her family's business, the former Crystal Ice Cream Co. She moved to Florida in 1951 with her husband, Albert Maugere. After his death in 1970, she worked as a dispatcher for the Orange (Fla.) County Sheriff's Department until 1978, when she returned to the Berkshires. She was active in the Syrian and Lebanese American Club in Orlando, Fla. She and her husband were fund-raisers for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. She enjoyed playing bingo and playing cards. She leaves a brother, Joseph S. George of Palm Bay, Fla., and a sister, Elizabeth Mekdeci of Orlando. A Memorial Mass for Josephine Maugere will be held Saturday at 9 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Bonaventure Moccia, CP. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams, at a later date. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., through AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, MA 01220, which is in charge of arrangements. She leaves her nieces and nephews, attorney Emil George, Michael Mekdeci, Ned Aid, Kelly Aid, Dennis Mekdeci, Richard Mekdeci, Patricia Strzepek, Susan Cooksey and Barbara Shaheen.
