Florence (Sampson) Wheelock

Mrs. Florence(Sampson)Wheelock, 92, of 1591 Massachusetts Ave. North Adams, MA, died early Sunday morning Feb. l8, 2001 at her home. She was a former longtime resident of School St. in Cheshire, MA. She was born in Dalton, MA on March 14, 1908 a daughter of the late George Sampson and Mary (Kenney) Sampson. She attended schools in Dalton and graduated from the former Dalton High School. She also attended the former Berkshire Business College and graduated from there with the class of 1929. Mrs. Wheelock was employed for a few years with the Stevenson Insurance Co. in Pittsfield, MA until she became a homemaker and raised her family. She was a longtime resident of Cheshire, MA and was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church there. She enjoyed knitting. She moved to North Adams in 1973 to help care for her grandchildren. She was the widow of Harold Wheelock whom she married on Sept. 24, 1934. He died on November 1, 1971. Survivors include one daughter- Patricia 1. Chenail of North Adams with whom she made her home. Three Grandchildren- Kathleen M. Chenail of North Adams Sandra J. Robinson of North Adams, Daniel P. Chenail of Chesterfield, MA Four Greatgrandchildren- Michele L. Hartman, Heather A. Hartman, Schuyler M. Robinson, and Brooks A. Robinson all of North Adams. Nieces and Nephews. Her son in law Melvin Chenail died in 1973. Two sisters are also deceased including Eileen Butler and Dorothy Nichols. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday afternoon Feb. 20, 2001 at 1:30 pm at St. Patricks Church in Williamstown, MA with the Rev. William F. Cyr, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Cheshire Cemetery in Cheshire, MA. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church or to St. Patrick’s Church in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals West Chapels 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247 which is in charge of arrangements.
