Austin T. Riiska

Austin T. Riiska, 73, of 198 New Hartford Road died yesterday at home. Born in Winsted, Conn., on June 13, 1927, he was the son of John Axel and Katherine Treacy Riiska. He moved to Sandisfield in 1961. Mr. Riiska was a truck driver for O&G Industries in Torrington, Conn. He was a member of the Sandisfield American Post 456. He leaves his wife, the former Audrey Kandler; four daughters, Kathy Lovejoy of Colebrook, Conn., Jeanne MacBurnie of Sandisfield, Brenda Desko of Winsted and Helene Psillas of Tolland; a son, Austin J. "A.J." Riiska of Sandisfield; a brother, John O. Riiska of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Mary E. "Betty" Westberg of Norfolk, Conn.; eight grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. A memorial service for Austin T. Riiska will be held Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at New Boston Congregational Church, New Boston, Mass., at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Sandisfield Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 22, at The Shea Funeral Home, 99 Wheeler St., Winsted, Conn., from 6 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to The New Boston Congregational Church, Sandisfield, MA 01255, and/or Hospice Care of the Berkshire Inc., 369 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. He was predeceased by a brother, Martin J. Riiska; and a grandson, Austin C. Riiska.
