William Dewhurst

William E. "Bud" Dewhurst, 73, of 1827 Jacob's Ladder Road died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in New Kingston, N.Y., on Sept. 26, 1927, son of Howard and Wilmah Yaple Dewhurst, he was a graduate of Margaretville High School. He moved to Southwick in 1947, where he was a special police officer on its first Police Department, and drove a school bus for the town. He and his father owned and operated a grain business in Southwick, and at the same time Mr. Dewhurst owned and operated the William E. Dewhurst Water Systems Co. He moved to Becket in 1973 and continued operating the water system company. He and his wife also owned and operated an antique business out of their home in Becket. Mr. Dewhurst enjoyed gardening. His wife, the former Gloria J. Hinish, whom he married Aug. 5, 1948, died May 6, 1994. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Nancy L. Frisbie of Becket; three sisters, Mrs. Geraldine I. Misevich of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Marie E. Norman of Dunedin, Fla., and Buckley, Wash., and Mrs. Leona B. Benson of Southwick, and two grandchildren. Mr. Dewhurst leaves his loving grandchildren, Nathan and Jessica Frisbie; his sister-in-law, Nancy H. Carlson; and his brother-in-law, Samuel J. Hinish. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with the Rev. Robert L. Withers, pastor of First Congregational Church in Becket and the Becket Federated Church, officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the New Kingston Valley Cemetery in New Kingston, N.Y. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Saturday morning at 9 until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers friends wishing may make donations to First Congregational Church in care of Kelly Funeral Home.
