Francis Alarie Sr.

Francis E. Alarie Sr., 83, of 119 Commercial St. died Saturday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital after suffering a heart attack. Born in Adams on Dec. 21, 1917, son of James and Gertrude Sears Alarie, he attended Adams schools. He was a member of the National Guard, Company M, during World War II. Mr. Alarie was employed by the former L.L. Brown Paper Co. for 33 years until it closed. He was a custodian at Williams College for four years and at C.T. Plunkett School for several years, retiring in 1983. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas', and a member of the Maple Grove Civic Club and the Cheshire Senior Citizens, and the former Cartier Club. Mr. Alarie was an assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 38 for 45 years. In 1958, he received a recognition award by the troop and, in 1964, was awarded the St. George Cross by the late Bishop Christopher J. Weldon of the Diocese of Springfield. He and his wife, the former Arlene Stamwitz, would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary April 15. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Francis E. Alarie Jr. of Pittsfield; a sister, Mildred Pinsonneault of Adams; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The funeral for will be tomorrow, Feb. 27, at 9 from TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME in Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in Notre Dame Church in Adams celebrated by the Rev. Bonaventure Moccia, CP. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boy Scout Troop 38 through the funeral home, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA 01220.
