George F. Honiker

George F. Honiker, 85, of 76 Maplewood Ave. died Sunday evening at home. Born in Pittsfield on June 22, 1915, son of George M. and Nellie Gowdy Honiker, he attended local schools. Mr. Honiker was employed by GE in the capacitors department, retiring in 1979. He also owned and operated service stations on the Pittsfield-Lenox Road, Center and Elm streets, and in Coltsville, for more than 22 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and enjoyed traveling to California and Florida to visit family. He was a thoroughbred race horse enthusiast, attending fairs throughout the area, and tended his own garden. He and his wife, the former Mary P. Boivin, would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary May 23. They were married in Sacred Heart Church. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Maralyn A. Morrissey of Portsmouth, N.H., Donna J. Kohlenberger of Lenox and Karen R. Shaffer of Lee; two sons, George F. Honiker Jr. of Merced, Calif., and Peter F. Honiker of Merritt Island, Fla.; three sisters, Elizabeth Nealon and Patricia Palmiero, both of Beverly Hills, Fla., and Helen Frissora of Ansonia, Conn.; a brother, Robert Honiker of Clearwater, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford Honiker and Richard Honiker. Calling hours at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. The funeral will be Thursday at 8:15 from the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
