Charles A. Cardinal, 63

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Charles Albert "Chuck" Cardinal, 63, of 354 Kemp Ave. died Saturday morning, Sept. 21, 2002, at North Adams Commons, where he had been admitted Tuesday.

Born in North Adams on Aug. 16, 1939, son of George and Albertine Rose Gingras Cardinal, he attended local schools, including Drury High School.

He was a member of the Army Reserve and a 12-year member of the Massachusetts National Guard. He served with the 1060 Transportation Company in North Adams from 1956 to 1962. He was honorably discharged July 1, 1968, as a specialist and first cook with Company A, a mechanized infantry unit, in Adams.

Mr. Cardinal was employed by the city of North Adams in the Parks and Recreation Department and later in the Water Department. He retired in February after more than 20 years of service.

He also had been an auto body specialist with the former George's Auto Body Shop until 1971, when he established Chuck's Radiator Shop on Ashland Street. He owned and operated the shop for five years.

He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church.

He and his wife, the former Valerie Ann Beauchamp, were married April 20, 1968, in Notre Dame Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Jeffrey Allen Cardinal of North Adams and Stephen Jay Cardinal of Adams; a sister, Elizabeth Famiano of Clarksburg, and two two granddaughters, Brittany Marie Cardinal and Courtney Elizabeth Cardinal.

He was predeceased by a sister and a brother, Agnes Renauld and George Albert Cardinal.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Cardinal will be Tuesday at 10:15 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for the American Heart Association through the funeral home.
