Leonard I. Boivin

Leonard I. Boivin, 73, of 74 Maplewood Ave. died Tuesday at home. Born in Pittsfield on March 22, 1927, son of Isadore and Rose Lassor Boivin, he was a 1944 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He served in the Army in Panama during World War II. Mr. Boivin was employed by the city of Pittsfield as a senior parking meter cash collector and parking meter maintenance man for 34 years, retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and a former member of the Eagles. He was also an Eagle Scout. At the age of 12, he sang on local radio station WBRK. His wife, the former Jennie Cencia, died March 18, 1976. He leaves three sons, Leonard J. Boivin of Northampton, David F. Boivin of Lenox Dale and William M. Boivin of Pittsfield; two sisters, Mary Honiker of Pittsfield and Rose Guinipero of Florida; a brother, Joseph Boivin of Arizona; his stepmother, Theresa Boivin of Pittsfield, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2, at 10:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Charles' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Boivin's memory to HospiceCare of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
