Alice Chouinard

Alice Eva Chouinard, 87, of 85 Eagle St., formerly of 39 Walker St., died early Sunday morning at Willowood Health Care Center. Born in Clinton on Jan. 1, 1914, daughter of Albert and Zenaide LaPlante Brooks, she attended schools there before moving to North Adams, where she continued her education. She received her high school diploma by taking night classes at the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Mrs. Chouinard was first employed by the North Adams Public School System as a monitor during recess. She also worked at the former Hoosac Cotton Mill for a short time before leaving to raise her family. She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and enjoyed sewing. She and her husband, Arthur A. Chouinard, were married Sept. 4, 1933, in Notre Dame Church. Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Edmond A. Chouinard of Providence, R.I.; a daughter, Annette Cohen of Manchester, Vt.; four sisters, Rachel Garner of Williamstown, Yvonne Simon of Woodford, Vt., Lorraine Martin of North Bennington, Vt., and Jeannette Trudeau of Great Barrington; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Funeral Mass will be at 11 at Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 9 until the time of the funeral. Donations may be made to the Notre Dame Building Fund in care of the funeral home. A brother, Oliver Brooks, died in 1967. Survivors include six grandchildren, David, Michael and John Chouinard; Andrea Hanson, Candice Cohen and Judy Delhumeur; and four great-grandchildren, Shea Hanson, and Daniel, Laura and Amy Delhumeur.
