Edward S. Mitchell

Edward S. Mitchell, 76, of 636 Cheshire Road died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Lanesboro on Dec. 13, 1924, son of George Mitchell III and Louise Sukanek Mitchell, he attended local schools and was a 1942 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Intrepid, which took part in the invasion of the Marshall Islands. Mr. Mitchell was employed as a machinist at GE for 37 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs. An avid mushroomer and cook, he also enjoyed gardening. He leaves his wife, the former Carmelita M. Catlin, whom he married April 15, 1950; a daughter, Vickie A. Mitchell of Pittsfield; two sons, Craig E. Mitchell of Cheshire and Thomas C. Mitchell of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, William Mitchell of Hinsdale; four grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Mr. Mitchell was predeceased by a brother, George Mitchell, of Grand Junction, Colo. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is in charge of arrangements.
