Niles H. Gage

Niles H. Gage, 87, of 5 Baldwin Hill Road, South Egremont, died Monday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in Sandisfield on Feb. 18, 1915, son of Daniel W. and Lena Soule Gage, he attended local schools. A well-known carpenter, Mr. Gage was a foreman and supervisor for Charter Oaks and the F.G.R. construction companies, both of Hartford, Conn. He also ran Monarch Construction Co. and built and refurbished many of the International House of Pancakes restaurants on the East Coast. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Mount Everett Country Club for many years and won many trophies. He and his wife, the former Josephine Morandi, were married May 5, 1938, in Sheffield Congregational Church. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Thomas A. Gage of Egremont and William N. Gage of Great Barrington; three daughters, Carol Gage of Egremont, Jane Mitton of Phoenix and Susan Russell of Oakland, Calif.; two brothers, Alden Gage of Virginia and Daniel W. Gage of Florida; two sisters, Cora Kickery of Florida and Alice Spray of Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral and burial for Niles H. Gage, who died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Niles' memory may be made to the SBVAS in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gage was predeceased by a brother, Charles, and a grandson, Harry "Billy" Flint Jr., who died May 3, 2002.
