Gae E. Manning

Gae E. Manning, 55, of 175 Smith Road, died yesterday morning at her home after a three-year battle with cancer. Born in Pittsfield Dec. 7, 1947, daughter of William D. Striebel Sr. of Dalton and the late Vera Engelson Striebel, she was a lifelong resident of Dalton prior to moving to Hinsdale two years ago. She attended Dalton schools and graduated from Wahconah Regional High School in 1965. She then graduated from Berkshire Business College. She also attended Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. An interior design consultant for many years, she also worked as a real estate associate. She was employed at the former First Agricultural Bank in Pittsfield and also worked in customer service at Crane & Co. for five years. She was a notary public. Mrs. Manning was a former member of the Dalton Bicentennial Committee, the Berkshire Historical Society, the Berkshire Humane Society, and the Housatonic Valley Association. She was a member of the Hinsdale Bicentennial Committee. She was a stained glass artist and also enjoyed painting, cross-stitch, collecting antiques, cooking and reading. She leaves her husband, James D. Manning, whom she married April 24, 1971, in Dalton, and her father. She also leaves a daughter, Tracy A. Cahalan of Dalton; a brother, William D. Striebel Jr. of Dalton; and a grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Gae E. Manning, who died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, also leaves her son-in-law, Gerald J. Cahalan Jr., and her grandson, Justin D. Forgea, both of Dalton, and her nephews, William D. Striebel III of Dalton and David Striebel of Hinsdale. She will be lovingly missed by her golden retrievers, Nicholas and Megan. Private funeral services for Mrs. Manning will be held Saturday. Calling hours will be held today from 4 to 7 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, the Golden Retriever Rescue League, or to the Hinsdale Bicentennial Committee in care of the funeral home.
