Mathew Paul Savard

Mathew Paul Savard, 75, of Merritt Island, Fla., died Friday at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center in Merritt Island. He was the father of Linda Silverman of Lee. Born in St. Albans, Vt., on April 22, 1927, son of Fredrick and Marian Fontaine Savard, he was a 1944 graduate of Milton High School in St. Albans. An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a radio technician with the 752nd Tank Battalion. He first worked at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston and in 1956 moved to Florida, where he was employed by GE at Cape Canaveral at the beginning of the Polaris Missile Program. He worked in the Poseidon and Trident programs. He retired after 30 years with the company. Following retirement, he received his commercial driver's license was employed by Creative Management Technology, transporting NASA and other dignitaries to shuttle launches for seven years. He was a member of the Merritt Island Masonic Lodge 353 and this past July was initiated as a Shriner at the Cairo Temple in Milton. Besides his daughter, he leaves his wife of 54 years, Emma; a son, Charles Savard of Merritt Island; another daughter, Barbara Dallas of Merritt Island; three sisters, Connie Carlson, Honey Shaw and Beverly Collins, a brother, Charles Savard, two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
