Ruth M. McMurtry

Ruth M. McMurtry, 85, of 63 Toronita Ave. died Monday at Hillcrest Commons Nursing Home. Born in Grandville Ferry, Nova Scotia, on Jan. 31, 1916, daughter of George I. and Hattie Mae Robblee Morrison, she was a graduate of Grandville Ferry High School. She moved to Pittsfield in 1951. Mrs. McMurtry was employed at the Robinson home in New Lebanon, N.Y., as a domestic for many years. She was known for her knitting skills in Grandville Ferry. Her husband, Orlin G. McMurtry, whom she married in 1950, died in 1992. She leaves three stepdaughters, Lorraine McMurtry Higgs of South Glens Falls, N.Y., Eleanor McMurtry Whaley of Argyle, N.Y., and Barbara McMurtry Connell of Sarasota, Fla.; a stepson, George McMurtry of Greenville, S.C.; several stepgrandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her newborn daughter, Diane, in 1954, and a stepson, Edward McMurtry. There will be no calling hours. Following cremation, a graveside service for Ruth M. McMurtry will be held in East Nassau Cemetery, N.Y., at a time to be announced later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Elder Services of Berkshire County, in care of WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, which is in charge of arrangements. Among survivors are nieces and nephews residing in Massachusetts, Arizona and Nova Scotia, Canada.
