Joseph Paul Damiano

Joseph Paul Damiano, 98, of 47 Amherst St., West Springfield, a former North Adams resident, died yesterday morning at Renaissance Manor Nursing Home in Westfield. Born in Castel Marrone, province of Caserta, Italy, on Aug. 17, 1904, son of Michele Damiano and Filomena Farina Damiano, he was educated there. He came to the United States with his family at age 16. Mr. Damiano was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co., retiring in 1969. He also worked for the former Arnold Print Works, the former Windsor Print Works, the Boston & Maine Railroad, the former Gale Shoe Co., GE in Pittsfield and Hamilton Standard Co. in Windsor Locks, Conn. Following his retirement, he volunteered as a school crossing guard. He and his wife, the former Angelina A. Mangano, were married June 7, 1930, in St. Anthony's Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Phyllis Sacco of West Springfield; a brother, Louis Damiano of Laurel, Md.; two sisters, Anna Damiano and Dolorata Damiano, both in Italy; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Joseph Paul Damiano will be Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 8:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Parish Center, 64 Marshall St., celebrated by the Rev. Daniel O'Hear, pastor. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Feb. 11, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Angelina A. Mangano Damiano; daughter and husband, Phyllis Damiano Sacco and Anthony N. Sacco Jr.; grandchildren, Dr. Anthony N. Sacco III, Mary C. Sweeney, Joseph P. Sacco and Michael L. Sacco; great-grandchildren, Julianne and Allison Sacco, James LaFond, and Matthew, Anthony and Megan Sweeney; a brother, Louis Damiano; sisters Anna and Dolorata. He was predeceased by his sisters Concetta, Pasqualina and Maddalena, and brothers Francesco and Peter Damiano.
