Julia Gillett

Julia Gillett, 96, formerly of Park Lane, died yesterday morning at Noble Horizons of Salisbury, Conn., where she had been a resident for three years. Born in Amenia, N.Y., on July 7, 1906, daughter of Edward and Katherine McKelvey Leafgreen, she was a 1924 graduate of the former Searles High School in Great Barrington. Mrs. Gillett owned and operated the former Knick Knack shop in Great Barrington in the 1950s. She was a member of Old Parish Church and its Women's Fellowship. Her husband, Charles C. Gillett, whom she married March 20, 1928, at her parents' home in Great Barrington, died Oct. 12, 1993. She leaves several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Julia Leafgreen Gillett, formerly of Sheffield, died Feb. 10, 2003. She was predeceased by her brother, Martin Leafgreen, and her sister, Elsie Baker. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Olga Leafgreen of Noble Horizons. A service of remembrance will be conducted Wednesday at 2 at Old Parish Church by the Rev. Arthur E. Kaufman, pastor. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the parish rooms of the church. Private burial will be in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington.
