Edward B. Shafer

Edward B. Shafer, 59, of 65 East St. died Monday evening at home. Born in Adams on March 21, 1943, son of Robert and Jessie Oslizlo Shafer, he graduated in 1962 from the former Adams High School, where he was president of his class. He also graduated from the Vaughn Barber School in Hartford, Conn., in 1963. Mr. Shafer was employed at Data Flute CNC in Pittsfield for several years as an inspector, until ill health forced his retirement six months ago. He also had been employed as a machine operator at GE in Pittsfield from 1968 until 1992, and before that, as a barber at the former Frank's Barber Shop for several years. He was a past president and coach for the Adams Little League, and had devoted many years to the youth bowling league at Valley Park Lanes in North Adams. He was a member of the Candlepin Bowling League at Valley Park and had raced pigeons many years ago. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and kayaking. He leaves his wife, the former Lynda B. Johndrow, whom he married June 11, 1966; two sons, Todd E. Shafer and Corey W. Shafer, both of Adams; a daughter, Kelly B. Brown of Marshfield; two brothers, Robert Shafer of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and John Shafer of Adams; a sister, Patricia Cardin of Adams, and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Edward B. Shafer will be private. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Fund for Hospice at the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, MA 01220, which is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include three grandchildren, Gabriella and Maxwell Shafer, both of Adams, and Hayden Brown of Marshfield, and his lifelong friend, Bruce Andrews of North Adams. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Guinan, who died in 1986.
