Kenneth Walter Bernier

Kenneth Walter Bernier, 72, of 15 Country Road died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 10, 1930, son of Andrew and Pearl Wescott Bernier, he was a 1949 graduate of Pittsfield High School. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the Navy from 1949 to 1950 and in the Air Force from 1950 to 1953. Mr. Bernier was employed as an inspector for 38 years by GE in the naval ordnance division in Pittsfield. He retired in 1990. He was active member of Christian Assembly Church in Pittsfield, serving as a deacon for 18 years. He also ministered to inmates at the Berkshire County House of Correction. He leaves his wife, the former Carolyn Brown, whom he married April 4, 1953; two sons, Keith W. Bernier of Dalton and Kevin M. Bernier of Peabody; a brother, Donald Bernier of Dalton, and five grandchildren. Another son, Scott Bernier, died in 1965. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Kenneth Walter Bernier, who died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, is also survived by his five grandchildren, Jason, Jennie, Joshua, Heather and Claira; his sister-in-law, Pat; a daughter-in-law, Debbie; his mother-in-law, Svea Brown, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 15, at 11 at Christian Assembly Church, 850 Williams St., Pittsfield, by the church's former pastor, the Rev. Joseph Bilotta, now of Calvary Tabernacle Assembly of God in Medina, N.Y. Burial will be in the spring in Village Cemetery in West Stockbridge. Calling hours will be Friday, Feb. 14, from 4 to 7 at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church's building maintenance program or to its mission department, both in care of funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
