John H. Bailey

John H. Bailey, 73, of 1021 River Road, died at North Adams Regional Hospital on Friday. Born in Falls Village, Conn., on July 20, 1929, son of John H. and Sadie V. Murray Bailey, he attended Becket and Lee schools and was a graduate of Lee High School. A licensed oil-burner technician, he ran his own business in Westfield for many years, and then was a self-employed logger and subcontractor in Worthington, retiring in 1984 because of poor health. He loved fishing, camping and wildlife, and also was a fan of stock car racing. He leaves his wife, the former Judith Kemp, whom he married Feb. 16, 1966; a son, Edwin Bailey of Cambridge, N.Y.; a daughter, Sherry Ciolkowski of Williamstown; a sister, Anna Buttles of Otis; two brothers, Edwin Bailey of Westfield and David Bailey of Clarksburg, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be no funeral services or calling hours. Bailey was an organ donor and body donor to the Anatomical Gift Program through Albany (N.Y.) Medical College. Following cremation, burial will be in Maple Street Cemetery in Hinsdale at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140-1102 or through BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, which is in charge of arrangements. His brother-in-law, James Kemp, died in 1995, and since he was the youngest of 13 children, he leaves many nieces and nephews.
