Joan Estabrook

Joan Estabrook, 70, of 41 Glory Drive died March 5 at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif., after complications from cardiac arrest. Born in Los Angeles on April 7, 1930, daughter of Charles and Virginia Samuels Gilroy, she attended schools in California and Kansas in her early years and moved to Pittsfield in 1958. She received her bachelor of arts degree in history from Washburn University, interrupted by a year of study at the University of Southern California, and was a member of Alpha Phi. While in California, Mrs. Estabrook was employed by both the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and North American Aviation as a computational technician for various aerospace projects. She also served on the staff of Berkshire Country Day School in Stockbridge for several years. A longtime member of the Pittsfield College Club, she enjoyed local cultural activities, the arts and travel. She and her husband, Donald M. Estabrook, celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary Oct. 27. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Brian Estabrook of Foxboro and Alan Estabrook of Boston; a sister, Elizabeth Anderson of Avon, Conn., and a grandson. A family memorial service for Joan Estabrook was held last week. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be sent to the National Tuberous Sclerosis Foundation, 801 Roeder Road, Suite 750, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Among survivors are a grandson, Alec Estabrook of Boston. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, Mass., is in charge of arrangements.
