John Francis Pennock

John Francis Pennock, 73, 1100 Mohawk Trail, formerly of Eagle Street, died Friday in his office at General Cable Corp., 160 Water St., Williamstown, shortly after being stricken by an apparent heart attack. Born Andrew Lewis Trombley on Feb. 15, 1930, in Burlington, Vt., he was adopted at the age of six months by Grover R. and Louise F. Smith Pennock of Bennington, Vt. He graduated in 1948 from the former Bennington High School, where he played the trumpet and was a member of the school band. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1955, and later as a reservist until 1958. Mr. Pennock had been employed by General Cable since 1989, most recently as site manager for its former Williamstown facility, which now leases space to other businesses. He was first employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in various capacities, including plant and facilities engineer from April 1955 to April 1987, then for Commonwealth Sprague until August 1989. While at Sprague, he was instrumental in establishing the Sprague Electric Santa Fund and helping to build the company's train, which appeared in many Fall Foliage Parades. He also enjoyed baseball. He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy M. Thomas, whom he married June 2, 1956; three sons, Steven J. Pennock and Richard R. Pennock, both of North Adams, and Paul M. Pennock of Amherst; a sister, Jean L. Pease of Farmington, N.H., and three stepgrandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- John Francis Pennock, who died Feb. 21, 2003, also leaves many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 11 at AUGÉ-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory be made to the Berkshire Humane Society through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
