Harvey LaBonte

Harvey LaBonte, 83, of 49 Brooklyn St., died Monday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in North Adams on March 5, 1919, son of Arthur and Rosanna Gates LaBonte, he attended schools in North Adams. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He served in the Pacific theater in the battle for Saipan. He was last employed by the former North Adams State College, where he worked for 20 years until his retirement in 1982. He also worked at the same time as a bus driver for JT Bus Lines. Prior to that he worked for the former Blackinton Coal Co. He was an active member of the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW. He was a past commander there and was currently the senior vice commander. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Adams. He liked working outdoors and also made furniture. He leaves his wife, the former Doris Florence Farrar, whom he married on Oct. 15, 1938, in First United Methodist Church; one daughter, Pattiann Shepard of North Adams; one son, Harvey LaBonte Jr. of Grand Isle, Vt.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Patricia Rose LaBonte, died in infancy. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Harvey LaBonte will take place Friday evening Feb. 28, 2003, at 7 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 7. Burial with military honors will be in the spring in Southview Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW in care of the funeral home. Survivors include six grandchildren, Ernest Shepard of Brattleboro, Vt. Tia Shepard of Pittsfield, Richard LaBonte of Colchester, Vt., Michael LaBonte of Winooski, Vt., Lisa Francis and Leslie Tudhope of North Hero, Vt. A daughter, Patricia Rose LaBonte, died in infancy. One sister and six brothers are deceased: Sally Blair and Leo, Russell, Douglas, Albert, Archie and George LaBonte.
