Eva Columbia Puppolo

Eva Columbia Puppolo, 83, formerly of 114 Francis St., died Tuesday at Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington, Vt. She was a longtime elementary school teacher. Born in North Adams on Feb. 21, 1920, daughter of Michael and Josephine Marino Puppolo, she graduated in 1938 from Drury High School and in 1942 from the former North Adams State Teachers' College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Miss Puppolo first taught at the former Mark Hopkins School and later transferred to East School, now Sullivan School. She retired in 1983 after 41 years of teaching. She first taught in Cheshire from 1942 to 1945. She also donated much of her time tutoring in her home for many years. Miss Puppolo was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony's Church, where she taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and was a longtime volunteer with the Bazaar Committee. She was a member of the Berkshire County Teachers Association and the Massachusetts Teachers Association. She leaves a brother, Henry Puppolo of North Adams. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Eva C. Puppolo will be Friday, Feb. 28, at 1:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 2 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, State Road, by the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will follow in the Marino-Puppolo family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from noon until the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the St. Anthony's Centennial Fund or St. Anthony's Church through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. Survivors include a brother and two sisters-in-law, Henry and Nancy Puppolo of North Adams, and Lena Puppolo of Kingston, N.Y.; a niece, Dr. Celeste Puppolo; two nephews, Michael Puppolo of Adams and John Michael Puppolo of Kingston, and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Frank Puppolo, David Puppolo and John Puppolo.
