Edith Stenson

Edith Graham Stenson, 93, of 34 Jackson St. died Monday at Willowood of North Adams, where she had been a patient since 1997. Born in North Adams on Sept. 22, 1907, daughter of O. Andrew and Elizabeth Graham Heggie, she was a lifelong resident and graduated from Drury High School in 1926. She later attended the former North Adams Normal School for two years before entering Boston University, where she graduated in 1930. She taught history at Drury High School for 20 years, retiring in 1964. Mrs. Stenson was a member of First Congregational Church, where she was active in many of the women's groups and the Choral Club. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teacher Association. Her husband, Einar N. Stenson, whom she married June 14, 1941, died April 24, 1989. The last of her immediate family, she leaves several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2001, at a time to be announced in First Congregational Church. The Rev. Jill D. Graham, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There are no calling hours. The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests memorial donations be made to First Congregational Church, through the AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 No. Church St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. Her brother, Norman F. Heggie, died Jan. 1, 1991.
