George Passenant

George F. Passenant, 86, of 96 B Depot St. died Monday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield. Born in Astoria, N.Y., on July 7, 1914, son of Louis and Minnie Weiss Passenant, he attended schools there and had resided in Dalton for the past year. Mr. Passenant was employed as a truck driver for the Fuller-Brush Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1975. He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and, while living in Astoria, of Most Precious Blood Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and an usher. He was also instrumental in starting the 9-12-year-old Pee Wee baseball league. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Hudson Council of Queens, N.Y. He leaves his wife, the former Ruth W. Bowley, whom he married Oct. 11, 1941; two daughters, Roberta F. Passenant of Pittsfield and Barbara R. Ross of Rockaway Beach, N.Y.; a son, Donald G. Passenant of Gaithersburg, Mo.; a brother, Frank Passenant of Rockaway Point, N.Y.; a sister, Minnie Stanoczek of Queens, N.Y.; two grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Agnes' Church, celebrated by the Rev. John A. Koonz, pastor. Burial will take place in Ashuelot Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 Main St., Dalton. Mr. Passenant also leaves his two grandchildren, Dennis Ross and Catherine Cohen, and his great-granddaughter, Kelly Cohen.
