Eleanor Margaret Dorval

Eleanor Margaret Dorval, 101, died Saturday at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home, where she had resided since 1997. Born in Bedford Village, N.Y., on March 25, 1902, daughter of David and Ella Palmer Clifford, she was a graduate of Good Council High School and College in White Plains, N.Y., and earned a master’s degree in library science from Columbia University. She moved to Brooklyn from Adams in 1949 and returned to Adams in 1975, residing at 25 Valley St. until moving to Great Barrington. Mrs. Dorval taught English and Latin at Regis High School, a Jesuit school for boys in New York City, and later was a librarian for the New York Public Library. She also worked as a librarian for the Adams Public Libraryuntil the mid-1940s. She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church in Adams and enjoyed visiting with friends and reading books about cats. Her husband, Lawrence B. Dorval, whom she married July 3, 1948, died Feb. 2, 1983. She leaves a daughter, Nanci Lucey of Ashley Falls; a sister, Doris Boska of Stamford, Conn., and a grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Eleanor M. Dorval, who died Saturday, April 12, 2003, will be today, April 14, at 1 at St. Peter’s Church, with the Rev. Shaun O’Connor, MIC, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Street Cemetery, Adams, at a later time. There will be no calling hours. BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, is in charge of arrangements. She leaves a grandson, Edward L. Dorval, and several nieces and nephews.
