Margaret E. DeRose

Margaret E. DeRose, 89, a former longtime resident of North Street, died Monday at Eden Park Nursing Home in Catskill, N.Y., where she had resided since September. Born in White Sulfur Springs, N.Y., on July 21, 1913, daughter of George and Rose Stecklien Cox, she attended schools there. She moved to Great Barrington in the 1930s. A homemaker, Mrs. DeRose was an active member of United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, and spent winters in Boynton Beach, Fla., for many years. Her husband, Orville C. DeRose, whom she married Oct. 27, 1934, in Liberty, N.Y., died Nov. 29, 2000. She leaves two sons, Kenneth DeRose of Coxsackie, N.Y., and Norman DeRose of Spruce Pine, N.C.; two daughters, Patricia Licht of Charlotte, N.C., and Nancy Mooney of Wayland; two brothers, Raymond Cox and Robert Cox, both of Guilderland, N.Y.; a sister, Alice Hallenbeck of Berne, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Margaret E. DeRose will be conducted Friday, April 25, at 10 at United Methodist Church, Great Barrington, by the Rev. Jill Graham, pastor of First Congregational Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Albany, N.Y. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. Predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Richard Cox.
