Ronald A. Meehan, 69
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ronald Allen Meehan, 69, of Hollywood, Fla., a native of North Adams, died April 13, 2003, at Parkway Memorial Regional Hospital in Miami after a short illness.
Born on Sept. 21, 1933, son of George and Irene Boulerice Meehan, he was a graduate of Drury High School. He moved to Florida in 1991.
He entered the Army in 1951 and completed a tour of duty in South Korea during the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam with the First Infantry's Big Red 1.
He received the Bronze Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm for outstanding meritorious service in combat.
Mr. Meehan retired from the Army in 1975 after 24 years of service. After the service, he was employed by the former Arnold Print Works and the Adams Department of Public Works, retiring in 1991.
While in Adams, he was a member of the Mountain Club, the Lodge of Elks, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He and his wife, the former Norma Elder, were married in 1996.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Jan Meehan of Tampa, Fla., and Michael Meehan of Deland, Fla.; a daughter, Shelley Meehan-Duquette of Adams; two brothers, Bernard E. Meehan of North Adams and Richard Meehan of Pittsfield; two sisters, Clarice Reynolds Lacroix of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., and Gerry Haring of Adams, and six grandchildren.
Another son, Ronald A. Meehan Jr., died April 20, 1991, and a brother, Philip Meehan, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Ronald A. Meehan will be Saturday, May 3, at noon at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 11 until the time of the service.
