Charles Silvernail

Charles R. Silvernail Jr., 85, of Baldwin Hill Road died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Dalton on Jan. 16, 1916, son of Charles R. Silvernail Sr. and Mable Maude Moore Silvernail, he graduated from Dalton High School and Williston Academy. He later attended Dartmouth and Duke universities. Before World War II, he worked for the Air Reduction Co. in Chicago in the marketing department. During World War II, he was stationed with Army Ordnance in Panama. After the war, Mr. Silvernail was employed by Roosevelt Paper of Philadelphia in the marketing department. He retired in 1977, and moved from West Hartford, Conn., to his summer home in North Egremont. He was a member of South Egremont Congregational Church and Wyantenuck Country Club. He leaves his wife, the former Christine Ramsdell, whom he married in 1950 in Great Barrington; two daughters, Ellen Swayne of Simsbury, Conn., and Jean Fadding of Housatonic, and two grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 17, at 10 a.m., at South Egremont Congregational Church, with the Rev. Kevin Smail officiating. Burial will follow in Peltonbrook Cemetery, Great Barrington. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of South Egremont Congregational Church in care of the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
