A. Albert Sitnik

A. Albert Sitnik, 94, of 19 Gilmore Ave. died Saturday at home. Born in Adams on May 10, 1908, son of Antoni and Marya Skiba Sitnik, he attended Adams schools. He moved to Great Barrington in 1938. An Army veteran of World War II, he received several campaign medals. Mr. Sitnik was employed by the Great Barrington Fire District for many years, retiring in 1978. He also worked for the Great Barrington Manufacturing Co., Great Barrington Milk Exchange and Berkshire Coating Paper Co. He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church and a member of American Legion Post 127 and the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association. He enjoyed gardening and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics. He and his wife, the former Cecelia F. Dunn, were married Feb. 18, 1933, in St. Ann’s Church in Lenox. She died Jan. 3, 2001. He leaves a daughter, Cecelia S. Meade of West Stockbridge; three grandchildren, and a great-grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for A. Albert Sitnik, who died Saturday, May 3, 2003, will be Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at 9 from BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Peter’s Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel Papineau, MIC, pastor. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 6, 2003, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Albert’s memory to St. Peter’s Church Memorial Fund or to the Southern Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mr. Sitnik is also survived by a son-in-law, Thomas B. Meade; three grandchildren, Thomas A. Meade, Kathleen M. Meade and John F. Meade and his wife, Ellen, and a great-grandson, Tucker Meade.
