Marceline M. Bissell

Marceline M. Bissell, 83, of 52 Railroad St. died Thursday, May 8, at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox. Born in Torrington, Conn., on June 14, 1919, daughter of Louis and Clementine Hograindleur Mermet, she and her family moved to Housatonic when she was a child. She was educated in Housatonic schools and attended the former Searles High School in Great Barrington. In 1952, she joined her late husband, Ira Bissell, in the operation of Bissell’s Furniture Store until 1974, when their son, David Bissell, took over ownership. Before then, she worked for Hurlburt Paper Co. in Lee from 1939 to 1948, and Rising Paper Co. in Housatonic from 1937 to 1938. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a member of the Lee Senior Citizens. Her husband, whom she married April 29, 1939, died Nov. 19, 1994. She leaves two sons, Louis F. Bissell and David M. Bissell, both of Lee; three sisters, Jeanette Gattasso of Pittsfield and Georgette Sorrentino and Blanche Buratto, both of Lee; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Private funeral services and burial for Marceline M. Bissell will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made in her memory to St. Mary’s Church. THE KELLY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bissell is survived by her four beloved grandchildren, Rita Palmer, Deborah Nardin and Christine and Michelle Bissell, and her five great-grandchildren, Paul Nardin, Jenna Nardin, Randall Palmer, Ellyssa Palmer and Ava Martin.
