William A. “Peaches” Schneyer

William A. “Peaches” Schneyer, 82, of Willow Street, Stockbridge, died yesterday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in Stockbridge on Oct. 12, 1920, son of Walter N. and Laura E. Sweet Schneyer, he graduated in 1939 from the former Williams High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 65th Infantry Division in Germany for 28 months, and was honorably dischaged as a staff sergeant in 1945. Mr. Schneyer was employed as a machinist at GE in Pittsfield for 43 years, retiring in 1983. He was an active member of the Glendale Fire Department for 60 years and a lifetime member of James A. Modolo VFW Post 8348 in Great Barrington. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the New Marlboro Pitch League. He and his wife, the former Frances M. Hatch, where married on Dec. 28, 1940, in First Congregational Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Cheryl M. Bell of Stockbridge; a son, Peter Schneyer of Stockbridge; a sister, Carolyn E. O’Brien of Great Barrington; two granddaugters, a grandson and a great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William A. “Peaches” Schneyer will be Thursday, June 19, at 10 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Stockbridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 8 at the funeral home. Mr. Schneyer also is survived by two granddaughters, Candace Provost of Lee and Susan Bell of Southampton; a grandson, Peter Schneyer Jr. of Stockbridge, and a great-granddaughter, Anne E.
