Alice Gertrude Suthers

Alice Gertrude Suthers, 97, of 73 Meade Ave. died early yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she was admitted Friday evening. Born in North Adams on July 18, 1905, daughter of Edward and Katherine McGregor Dean, she attended local schools. She was employed by the former Strong-Hewat Woolen Mill in Clarksburg for many years, retiring when the company ceased operation. Mrs. Suthers was a communicant of St. Patrick’s and St. Raphael’s Parish in Williamstown. She enjoyed cooking, reading and playing bingo. Her husband, Frederick Suthers, whom she married in September 1925, died March 11, 1972. She leaves a daughter, Ruth A. Davis of North Adams; a son, Edward F. Suthers of Clarksburg; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Alice Suthers will be Wednesday at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 at St. Patrick’s Church in Williamstown. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the St. Patrick’s Food Pantry in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Suthers was a devoted mother and grandmother. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth A. and Joseph J. Davis of North Adams, with whom she made her home, and a son and daughter-in-law, Edward F. and Amy D. Suthers of Clarksburg. She leaves many nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family; 15 brothers and sisters are deceased.
