Dr. Frederick Foster

Dr. Frederick S. "Bucko" Foster, 79, of 35 Gilead St. died yesterday at home. Born in Worcester on Oct. 10, 1921, son of Frederick J. and Rhea Desautels Foster, he moved to Adams at the age of 3. He attended the former Notre Dame School and was a 1938 graduate of the former Adams High School and a 1942 graduate of Assumption Preparatory School in Worcester. He served as a Navy pilot during World War II, stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He was discharged with the rank of lieutenant J.G. He received several campaign medals, including the Air Medal with one star. After the war, he graduated from Assumption College and from Tufts University Dental School in Boston in 1950. He returned to Adams and opened a dental practice, which he operated at the time of his death. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas', and a member of the Adams Lions and Mountain clubs, and Post 160 of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society Peer Review Board for many years. He enjoyed hunting and skiing and was a member of the Thunderbolt Ski Club. He and his wife, the former Marjorie Bunting, celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary Feb. 17. They were married in Pensacola, Fla. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Frederick S. Foster Jr. of Bellingham, Wash., and Raymond E. Foster and Charles H. Foster, both of Adams; three daughters, Susan Steele of Williamstown, and Raye Delmolino and Nancy Parrott, both of Adams; six grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. The funeral will be Thursday, March 22, at noon from TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME in Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1 at Notre Dame Church in Adams celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, March 21, from 4 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Frederick S. Foster Hoosac Valley High School Scholarship Fund for students entering the medical field, through the funeral home, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA 01220.
