Elmer Williams Jr.,

Elmer Charles "Bud" Williams Jr., 72, of Lebanon, N.H., formerly of Windsor, died Saturday at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon after a long illness. He was a member of the Windsor Board of Selectmen from 1962 to 1965, chairman of the board in 1964, and also served as the town's acting police chief. Born in Goshen on Nov. 14, 1928, son of Elmer Charles Williams Sr. and Marion Barker Williams, he attended schools there. He also attended Smith School in Northampton and studied parts merchandising at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He lived in Windsor from 1957 to 1971 and moved to Lebanon in 1978. Mr. Williams was employed as an auto mechanic at Brooks Garage in Williamsburg, as a molder at Haydenville Brassworks in Haydenville and as a shipping supervisor at Crane & Co. in Dalton. He was also a caretaker for the Conner Estate in Pittsfield and a school bus driver for the Central Berkshire Regional School District. He had worked in maintenance at Wahconah Regional High School in Dalton; Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, the Elks Club and DocuNet, all in Lebanon, and at First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. During the 1950s, he was self- employed in the pulp wood and logging business and, from 1975 to 1978, in painting and repairs in Coeur d'Alene. At the time of his death, he was employed in maintenance and security at Date Center Properties in Lebanon. Mr. Williams was a member of the New Hampshire Chiefs of Police Association. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and camping. He and his wife, the former Helene D. Cripps, were married Oct. 8, 1955, at the Congregational Church in Peru. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Jeffrey R. Williams of Lebanon, N.H., John C. Williams of Yardley, Pa., and Charles C. Williams of Hull; two daughters, Sally D. Ives of Bar Harbor, Maine, and Jacqueline S. Rich of Bernard, Maine; a sister, Doris Dodge of Easthampton; a brother, Robert Williams of Beverly Hills, Fla., and six grandchildren. Friends of Elmer C. "Bud" Williams Jr. may call at RICKER FUNERAL HOME, 56 School St. in Lebanon, N.H., Sunday, March 25, from 2 to 3. The funeral will follow at 3 at the funeral home. Graveside services to be held at the Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery in Brattleboro, Vt., will be announced at a later date.
