Herbert P. North

Herbert P. North, 80, of 145 New Lenox Road died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons. Born in Pittsfield on April 26, 1920, son of Herbert P. and Mary Babcock North, he was a 1937 graduate of Lenox Memorial High School. He served in the Army Air-Force from 1939 to 1945. He was first associated with his father's business, North's Service Station, which later became North's Services Inc., on the Pittsfield-Lenox Road. He retired in 1986. Mr. North attended the Church on the Hill in Lenox. He was a life member of the VFW Post 6180 in Port Richey, Fla., a member of the Lenox American Legion Post and the NRA. He leaves his wife of 55 years, the former Pauline M. Bardin, whom he married April 27, 1945; two sons, Alan H. North of Lenox and Daniel L. North of Pittsfield; two daughters, Paula J. Rhinemiller of Cheshire and Terry M. Schulze of South Glens Falls, N.Y.; a sister, Edith Dewyea of Manchester, N.H.; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 in WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. William Furey, officiating. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lenox, at a later date. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Among survivors are two nephews and two nieces. Mr. North's two brothers, Charles and Richard North, were both killed in action during World War II.
