Beatrice E. Monte

Beatrice E. Monte, 93, of 18 Lebanon Ave. died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Troy, N.Y., on Aug. 29, 1907, daughter of James and Carrie Hanks Moloney, she moved to Pittsfield at the age of 7 and was a 1926 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mrs. Monte was employed as a bookkeeper at the former Standard Furniture Store from 1925 until 1935. She was then employed in the toy department as a buyer at England Brothers from 1951 until 1970. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1924, where she was active in the Philathea Class, the Friendship Chapter and the 60 Plus Fellowship. She also taught Sunday School and was a leader of the church's Girl Scout Troop 44 for many years. Mrs. Monte was a member of the YMCA Auxiliary, a caller for the Bobby Kidney Sunshine Club and an election officer at Stearns School. Her husband, Frederick H. Monte, whom she married May 25, 1932, died Sept. 2, 1993. She leaves a son, Richard H. Monte of Media, Pa.; a daughter, Susan Williams of Charlotte, N.C., and three grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, with the Rev. Dr. Robert M. Rennie, pastor of First Baptist Church in Pittsfield, officiating. Burial will be in the West Center Cemetery in Berlin, N.Y., at a later date. Calling hours will be on Friday from 10:30 to 11 at the funeral home. Among survivors are her grandchildren, Mark Williams of Lexington, Ky., Craig Williams and his wife, Kim, of Avon, Conn., and Laurie Williams of Charlotte, N.C. If friends desire, donations are suggested to the Camp Fund at First Baptist Church.
