Bette Stephanie Gusmerini

Bette Stephanie Gusmerini, 67, of 71 Howland Ave. died yesterday morning at home after a battle with cancer. Born in Adams on May 9, 1936, daughter of Elizabeth Smachetti Volpi of Adams and the late Albert Volpi, she was a 1954 graduate of the former Adams High School and attended the Long Island School of Nursing. Mrs. Gusmerini was employed as a dispatcher for St. Johnsbury (Vt.) Trucking Corp. until retiring in 1990. She was a communicant of the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas’ and St. Stanislaus’ and a member of the Sons of Italy. She enjoyed flower gardening, especially roses. She and her husband, Joseph R. Gusmerini, were married Dec. 17, 1955, in St. Thomas’ Church. Besides her husband and mother, she leaves three daughters, Gail A. Porter of Hicksville, N.Y., Lori J. Appleton of Lake Placid, N.Y., and Lisa M. Olsen of Pawlet, Vt.; a sister, Dorothy Davis of Adams, and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated for the life of Bette Volpi Gusmerini on Thursday at 12:30 in Notre Dame Church. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. A visitation period will be held Thursday from 10 to noon, prior to the church service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, 135 Curran Highway, North Adams, MA 01247, or through MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, which is in charge of arrangements.
