Adam Joseph Skowronski

Adam Joseph Skowronski, 80, of 1 Wilfred Ave. died Saturday at home after a long struggle with cancer. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 17, 1922, son of Casimer and Tekla Lepak Skowronski, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1940. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served from 1942 to 1945 on the USS Arkansas, USS Kidd and USS Bon Homme Richard in the Pacific theater. He was honorably discharged with the rank of seaman first class. Mr. Skowronski was employed for 38 years in the GE power transformer division, retiring in December 1983. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus’ Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners’ clubs and of IUE-CIO Local 255. He and his wife, the former Henrietta L. Nowak, would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Sept. 12. They were married in St. Stanislaus’ Church by his cousin, the Rev. John Skowronski. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mary Ann Provost of Houston and Lynn Marie Stone of Elkhart, Ind.; a son, Peter J. Skowronski of Cheshire; two brothers, Edward Skowronski and Frank Skowronski, both of Pittsfield; two sisters, Agnes Para and Helen Tropani, both of Pittsfield, and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Adam Joseph Skowronski will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10 at St. Stanislaus’ Church. Inurnment will follow in the family plot in St. Stanislaus’ Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Survivors include his sons-in-law, Mark Provost and Gregory Stone; his brothers-in-law, Frank Para and Anthony Tropani; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Thaddeus, Matthew, Walter and Joseph Skowronski. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire at 135 Curran Highway, North Adams, MA 01247, or through McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 2-8 Liberty St., Adams, MA 01220, which is in charge arrangements.
